Coastal Table and Tales welcomes Emmanuel LaRoche at Coastal Table and Tales on February 19, 6–8 pm, for a conversation about the book, its research, and the stories behind the ingredients.

A Taste of Madagascar: Culinary Riches of the Red Island is a vivid exploration of Madagascar’s extraordinary food culture—from world-class vanilla and cocoa to wild pepper, honey, and caviar. Award-winning author and food podcaster Emmanuel LaRoche pairs ingredient-driven storytelling with recipes by Malagasy chefs and global culinary voices, alongside interviews with farmers and artisans committed to sustainable practices.

The book is both a culinary guide and a cultural portrait, offering chefs, home cooks, and curious travelers a deeper understanding of Madagascar’s flavors and the people who steward them.

In addition to the conversation around A Taste of Madagascar, the evening will now feature a live pastry installation by Pastry Chef Tanya Matta, using Madagascar’s iconic vanilla and pink peppercorn. The dessert will be built in real time and shared with attendees, bringing the book’s ingredients directly to the table.

The event remains an author talk at its core, now expanded into a more immersive, multi-sensory experience. Tickets moving forward reflect the expanded program.
